THE KING IS COMING

On this Palm Sunday, Rev. Dr. Alvin J. Gwynn Jr. at Historic Leadenhall Baptist Church led a worship service centered on Luke 19:37–40 and the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Framed by prayer, praise, and the life of the congregation, the service wove together heartfelt worship, community announcements, and the installation of new church officers. Rev. Gwynn’s message highlighted the intentionality of Jesus’ arrival, riding a donkey in fulfillment of prophecy to reveal himself as a King of peace rather than a political conqueror. He explored the varied responses of the crowd, from those seeking a warrior to those praising him for past miracles to those who were simply curious observers. The sermon invited believers to examine their own expectations and burdens, offering a call to salvation and a deeper relationship with Christ.

Scripture: Luke 19:37-40 (NKJV)

The Triumphal Entry

37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen,

38 saying, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!"

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, order your disciples to stop."

40 He answered, "I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out."
